What color to paint or stain interior doors and trim?

I’m in a major renovation in my house, and I’m looking for advice on what to with the new floor and crown moulding, and the door trim. Also, the doors are unfinished, and I’m uncertain whether to paint them (and what color!), or whether to stain them. My rooms are all neutral colors (light tans/sand colors.)

Also, the floors are carbonized bamboo, a medium brown shade, not the lighter natural color. Thanks

Stain them
Natural wood is much prettier and if u sell the house a great selling point

How to transition wood flooring into a step-down area?

I just installed a click-lock floating floor in my living room, but I’m not sure what transition to use for an unusual feature. My living room has a small section near the fireplace (about 12′ x 10′) that is 6" lower than the rest of the room. I installed the flooring up to the edge of the upper level and the edge of the lower level (minus expansion gap) and plan to cover the riser by glueing flooring boards horizontally to it. My question is: what transition pieces should I use to transition from the upper flooring to the riser? A regular bullnose transition is not tall enough to hide the gap between the upper flooring and the top of the board that I will glue to the riser. I was thinking of an "L" shaped piece to cover the gap, but I haven’t seen this type of transition for sale anywhere. I would prefer a wood transition that matches my carbonized bamboo floor, but other materials might be OK. Your ideas are appreciated!

I install flooring and have found that a lot of the companies do not have a big variety when it comes to transition strips.Usually it is three or four different kinds.
I run into situations like yours quite often and a lot of times I will go to a lumber yard and they will have a lot of trim pieces to choose from.Pick out what best suits my situation and then find some stain to match what I am installing.
That is where I would start.

The First Green Micro Gym – Help Save the Planet!

http://www.livinggreenchannel.com The Green Microgym in Portland, Oregon will become the first gym in the country to harness human energy from fitness bikes and convert it to electricity. Specially built motors hooked up to spin bikes will convert energy created by people exercising on the eco bikes into 200- 600 watts an hour of electricity, which is then stored in a special battery bank. The electricity in the battery bank is then used to power equipment, like the gym’s energy efficient treadmills, which use 30 percent less power than standard machines. The Green Microgym’s owner, Adam Boesel, expects that the amount of power generated will be modest at first, but hopes that the gym will eventually run fully on the energy it generates for itself. Meanwhile, the gym is going green in other ways, by turning lights and fans over equipment off when they are not in use, installing flooring made from recycled tires in the main gym floor and cork in the yoga room, solar power awnings, low flow toilets, and no showers to cut out water heating costs. It’s all part of Boesel’s plan to eventually achieve a net zero usage carbon footprint. If the Green Microgym is successful… and odds are that plenty of people will sign up for the gym’s 30 dollar a month membership fee in a town full of tree huggers like Portland… then don’t be surprised to see similar facilities pop up all over the country. As if you needed another reason to feel guilty about not going to the gym. I’m Elizabeth Chambers. Check back here for more eco friendly news and tips, right here on LivingGreenChannel.Com.

Has anyone installed and lived on Bamboo Floors for a while?

I am considering 3′ SOLID Bamboo Planks Flooring Floors floor $1.78/sf / HORIZONTAL CARBONIZED.

I have a concrete subfloor.

I used to have them in my store with a lot of traffic. They held up very well and were easy on the feet. I would recomend them.

What is the difference between these types of flooring?

VERTICAL CARBONIZED.

and

HORIZONTAL CARBONIZED

(Both are Solid Pre-finished Bamboo Planks)
Is one preferable- as far as wear and tear?

The only difference between these two is the pattern in the wood. The vertical cut causes the pattern to be in long pieces and the horizontal cut makes patterns of random short lines. It is a personal visual preference. Both will wear extremely well and most of these bamboo floors have a 25 year wear warranty.
