What color to paint or stain interior doors and trim?

I’m in a major renovation in my house, and I’m looking for advice on what to with the new floor and crown moulding, and the door trim. Also, the doors are unfinished, and I’m uncertain whether to paint them (and what color!), or whether to stain them. My rooms are all neutral colors (light tans/sand colors.)

Also, the floors are carbonized bamboo, a medium brown shade, not the lighter natural color. Thanks

Stain them
Natural wood is much prettier and if u sell the house a great selling point

How to transition wood flooring into a step-down area?

I just installed a click-lock floating floor in my living room, but I’m not sure what transition to use for an unusual feature. My living room has a small section near the fireplace (about 12′ x 10′) that is 6" lower than the rest of the room. I installed the flooring up to the edge of the upper level and the edge of the lower level (minus expansion gap) and plan to cover the riser by glueing flooring boards horizontally to it. My question is: what transition pieces should I use to transition from the upper flooring to the riser? A regular bullnose transition is not tall enough to hide the gap between the upper flooring and the top of the board that I will glue to the riser. I was thinking of an "L" shaped piece to cover the gap, but I haven’t seen this type of transition for sale anywhere. I would prefer a wood transition that matches my carbonized bamboo floor, but other materials might be OK. Your ideas are appreciated!

I install flooring and have found that a lot of the companies do not have a big variety when it comes to transition strips.Usually it is three or four different kinds.
I run into situations like yours quite often and a lot of times I will go to a lumber yard and they will have a lot of trim pieces to choose from.Pick out what best suits my situation and then find some stain to match what I am installing.
That is where I would start.

The First Green Micro Gym – Help Save the Planet!

http://www.livinggreenchannel.com The Green Microgym in Portland, Oregon will become the first gym in the country to harness human energy from fitness bikes and convert it to electricity. Specially built motors hooked up to spin bikes will convert energy created by people exercising on the eco bikes into 200- 600 watts an hour of electricity, which is then stored in a special battery bank. The electricity in the battery bank is then used to power equipment, like the gym’s energy efficient treadmills, which use 30 percent less power than standard machines. The Green Microgym’s owner, Adam Boesel, expects that the amount of power generated will be modest at first, but hopes that the gym will eventually run fully on the energy it generates for itself. Meanwhile, the gym is going green in other ways, by turning lights and fans over equipment off when they are not in use, installing flooring made from recycled tires in the main gym floor and cork in the yoga room, solar power awnings, low flow toilets, and no showers to cut out water heating costs. It’s all part of Boesel’s plan to eventually achieve a net zero usage carbon footprint. If the Green Microgym is successful… and odds are that plenty of people will sign up for the gym’s 30 dollar a month membership fee in a town full of tree huggers like Portland… then don’t be surprised to see similar facilities pop up all over the country. As if you needed another reason to feel guilty about not going to the gym. I’m Elizabeth Chambers. Check back here for more eco friendly news and tips, right here on LivingGreenChannel.Com.

Laminate Flooring Installation with Stairs in Fremont, CA

Laminate floor installation in Oakland, CA. We installed the 12MM carbonized bamboo laminate throughout the whole house. We used white quarter round for the perimeter molding. Job was 1000 ft. with the corner stair case and it took us five days. The bamboo laminate is super scratch resistant, looks exactly like engineered hardwood and will perform great for a long time. Has anyone installed and lived on Bamboo Floors for a while?

I am considering 3′ SOLID Bamboo Planks Flooring Floors floor $1.78/sf / HORIZONTAL CARBONIZED.

I have a concrete subfloor.

I used to have them in my store with a lot of traffic. They held up very well and were easy on the feet. I would recomend them.

What is the difference between these types of flooring?

VERTICAL CARBONIZED.

and

HORIZONTAL CARBONIZED

(Both are Solid Pre-finished Bamboo Planks)
Is one preferable- as far as wear and tear?

The only difference between these two is the pattern in the wood. The vertical cut causes the pattern to be in long pieces and the horizontal cut makes patterns of random short lines. It is a personal visual preference. Both will wear extremely well and most of these bamboo floors have a 25 year wear warranty.

Flooring: Which is the most durable: Hardwood, Laminate (like Pergo) or Bamboo?

Could someone tell me which is the most durable? To things like dogs toenails, furniture, and clumsy people such as myself? What about if I were to drag a couch across it? I really like the idea of bamboo floors, but I really want to make sure if I get it, I don’t regret my decision. I’m not going to have enough money to replace it in the next 10 years. I have two small dogs (and might get a bigger one in the time I live there). I want something durable and something that won’t warp if I spill a little water and wipe it up…say…20 minutes later. Does anyone know what "carbonized" means when refering to bamboo? I really have a hard time deciding on these things….

THANKS! :)
Oh…and which is the second most durable?
Laminate isn’t like bamboo…
Bamboo is…well…bamboo, and laminate is basically compressed board with a picture of wood on the top.

Durable?Pergo by far.I sell flooring and pergo has a wax coating on the tongue and groove that helps seal out water as long as its not standing so a wiped up spill shouldnt be a problem.Pergo is also covered with an aluminum oxide finish that will hold up to scratching better than any hardwood. It is also easy to install so you could save yourself a small fortune by doing it yourself.

Why Bamboo Flooring is a Great Choice For Your Flooring Project
Bamboo flooring can give you the natural beauty of hardwood floors in your home without you having to feel that your choice in home improvements is having a damaging affect on the environment. As one of nature’s greatest gifts to mankind, bamboo has been used in many useful ways since the beginning of time. It’s highly appreciated by many people. Bamboo is available in only 2 shades (over 50 colors are available). Bamboo is naturally golden blonde in color; but all have a unique and distinct pattern when made into flooring.

Bamboo flooring has grown in popularity because it’s better for the environment, is extremely durable, and looks great in homes. It can’ be used in high traffic places. And while new to America, has been used for centuries. Its popularity in America, however, has been growing at a tremendous rate for the past decade.

It can also range in hardness and colors. Unlike wood, which is tinted or dyed, bamboo is treated with heat to obtain darker colors. Bamboo flooring is similar to oak in dent resistance and dimensional stability. It immediately draws attention and recognition to a room, giving it character and style. With its hard wearing properties, environmental benefits and natural beauty, bamboo flooring is the flooring of choice for generations to come.

Naturally self-generating, bamboo grows to maturity within five years and is regarded as the strongest wood on plant earth. With forest resources under continued environmental pressure, Bamboo Flooring is a natural selection for your next building project. Natural types tend to show dirt and heel marks due to the yellowish color. Cleaning and care should always be considered.

Manufactured bamboo floors are typically made available in planks with either vertical- or horizontal-grain orientation.

Bamboo also rivals the strength of steel. The location where Bamboo is grown has great significance. Bamboo flooring can be as soft as pine and harder than maple depending on the species of bamboo used and when it was harvested. Bamboo flooring is extremely hard and is stronger than many hardwoods. Some species have been rated higher than maple and almost double that of the red oak.

It is one of the hardest, natural materials available for hardwood flooring and is an excellent alternative to tree wood. Because it is a rapid growing grass and not wood, it can be harvested every 3-5 years, unlike 15-25 years for most tree wood. This flooring is fully sand able and repairable when it is necessary.

Any Bamboo Flooring Company supplies a wide range of it, including natural horizontal, natural vertical, carbonized horizontal and carbonized vertical. Bamboo is designed and manufactured in 3 configurations; flat pressed (horizontal), side pressed (vertical), and Woven Strand.
