My husband and I have a medium shade of oak kitchen cabinets….we just bought bamboo wood flooring which is .?

about 2 shades lighter. We are now thinking we should have bought a few shades darker. Any suggestions?!

Since your kitchen cabinet choice is already a medium shade, a lighter color for the floor will be a good contrast. I think it will help make your kitchen bigger and brighter, whereas a darker shade might box you in. I’m sure it will look fine, good luck!

    It’s okay to have a lighter floor if you balance it. You could use dark are rugs to pull in the darker color or the cabinets, or get some of the funky new gel mats for ease underfoot in a dark color. I have built many homes and had the same initial regrets for how a choice turned out, but if you look at it as part of the karma of the process and go with the flow, you will find a way to turn a weakness into a strength.

    If you didn’t invest in the cabinets, you can also paint them. I had oak cabinets and really didn’t like the stain and wanted a calmer kitchen, so I primed and painted them a gloss dark color. Love them!

    I think you’ll like the lighter shade for the floor. Bamboo is resistant to water but under no circumstance should water be left to pool on its surface. It is recommended that area rugs or mats be placed in front of the sink or stove to not only prevent wear but to also catch spills that may go unnoticed.
    Cleaning is relatively simple requiring light mopping and sweeping. Beware that sweeping is very important as these floors can scratch. Dirt, sand, and other granular particles under foot can make good opportunity for damage.

    Open a box of the product that you bought and lay some out on the floor near the cabinets. You be the judge.
