This is what it says from Cali Bamboo "10-stage, water-based, acrylic topcoat system is 100% environmentally safe and free of all harmful chemical compounds. All coatings are free of halogenated hydrocarbons, heavy metals, herbicides, pesticides, urea formaldehyde and any harmful emissions."

Also, is bamboo stronger than some hardwoods? How strong is bamboo?

Your sealant sounds like it's about as environmentally safe as any you'll find. I love the look of bamboo and will soon be replacing a bedroom laminate floor with bamboo. I have done some research and don't recall any hardness comparisons other than that bamboo compares to hardwood in terms of toughness. It's definitely more durable than the laminates and infinitely more beautiful. Use a cleaner that will not leave a residue that will inhibit bonding and re-coating. Once wax, in any form, has been applied to a bamboo floor, only wax may be used as a coating over the floor.

While bamboo is more resistant to moisture than most woods, never use a wet mop or sponge to clean the floor. When using any wood flooring cleaner that requires mixing with water, follow the mixing directions precisely.

A cloth wetted with water and the squeezed dry may be used to wipe up foodstuffs and other spills, provided the area is buffed dry immediately.

We recently bought a house that has carpet in the living room and laminate wood floors in the kitchen. We recently found out there are great hardwood floors under the carpet in the living room. The kitchen floors are really light, almost like a bamboo or pine finish, and the living room floors are darker. They are still under the carpet so I don't know what the finish is. If we have them refinished, can we get them finished lighter? If not, are there any suggestions for how to transition from the lighter to the darker wood? The only places the floors join is a doorway, so it's not a large spot where you'd see both wood colors.

You ll have to find out just what type of wood it is ( most likely oak) and what color it is for sure. You may not want to try to lighten them ( may not be able to) If you lighten them and the color varies to much it may look like you tried to match and miss and it won t look good at all.
If you also lighten them, on occasion the old staple and tack strip nails leave a hole , even after you fill and stain, that is noticeable on a floor thats been covered w/ carpet..
And if you go a definite contrast,( dark or a medium color) that some times looks better. This is especially true if the door way is an arch or open space. If its a closable door where you don t see them together then it isn t as much of a sight. ( You don t say which it is.)
Depending where the laminate stops may decide how you transition it. If its an arch and they split the arch you may need a laminate reducer there. I assume the wood is thicker than the laminate.But I ve seen 70 s houses where the other flooring is built up to accomidate wood floors so their all flush or more even.
You may be able to do a wood threshold in the door of the new color so it transitions nicely.

I am thinking of putting a new bamboo floor down but currently have ceramic tile on the lower level of my house. Do I have to take up the tile or can I lay wooden flooring over the ceramic?

It is possible but not recommended

you might spend as much time on prep as you would on demo

the floor will be too high

that will cause you to cut your interior doors

all transition's will be trip areas a transition is one floor area to another

It will look bad

A home improvement should be just that an improvement.

Don't cut corners you are going to have to live with it.
